Newsletter #2 – 2016

The climate conference in Paris is over. In the media it was celebrated as a success. We are more sceptical. The fine objective to limit the global warming to 1,5 degress will not be attained with the decisions taken in Paris. There is a danger of the average temperature rising by over 3 degrees. Emissions are supposed to fall only in the future. Instead of acting now the problem will be postponed to tomorrow. The necessary abandonment of fossile resources does not appear in the text.

That is no accident: many governments want to secure the profits of the fossile industry rather than decommission coal-mines. If we are serious about our future we need to get active ourselves. In Germany that means stopping lignite mining. For that reason we will go to the Lausitz at Whitsun 2016 and stop the diggers.

1. THE CLIMATE IS NEGOCIATED HERE: DIGGER OCCUPATION

During the negotiations in Paris Ende Gelände- activists blocked the infrastructure in all 3 big lignite mining areas in Germany. In the middle German area near Leipzig they stopped a digger, in the Rhineland they obstructed the entry to the power station Niederaußem and in the Lausitz area they occupied 3 diggers.

2. REPRESSION: SOLIDARY GREETINGS PARIS
If governments celebrate, protesters need to be silenced. In the whole of France climate activists were massively repressed. Demonstrations were forbidden, houses searched, arrests and detentions made on a big scale. We show our solidarity with our friends in France: Statement of solidarity

3. INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN: WEBSITE ONLINE
When we’ll go to the Lausitz area we will not be alone. From 7th – 15th May thousands will blockade the fossile industry worldwide. We are the ones for whom we’ve waited.

The homepage of the international campaign is now online:

26. September 2019 Following the publication of the federal government's „climate package“, the action alliance Ende Gelände announces a mass action of civil disobedience in the Lusatian coal mining area. Thousands of people will block coal infrastructure with their bodies on the weekend of 29 November to 1 December 2019. Ende Gelände thus protests against the total failure of the Federal Government in climate policy. The alliance demands an immediate exit from coal and a fundamental system change.
